Last updated at 19-11-2021

We are often made aware of the food that we should avoid during pregnancy, but what about the foods that are good when you are pregnant?

Here is a list of best foods for women during pregnancy:

  1. Green leafy vegetables and fruits

Spinach and other green leafy vegetables can provide with multiple vitamins. Fruits are good for overall health. Try to avoid taking them in the form of juice.

2. Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes provide you with Vitamin A and C along with fiber and folate. When cravings kick in, make sweet potatoes your go-to snacks instead of going the unhealthy way.

3. Lentils

Folate, which is essential to develop the baby’s brain and nervous system, should be a part of your diet when you are pregnant. Lentils contain folic acid and also provide iron. They are stomach friendly foods which can also be cooked easily.

4. Yogurt

For a strong bone structure, your baby needs calcium and so do you. If your intake is insufficient to meet both your needs, your bones health will be impacted since the baby will derive calcium from your bones. Yogurt contains as much calcium as milk and also has folate present in it. Go for greek yogurt for maximum benefits.

5. Avocados

Avocados provide you with heart healthy fats and also contain potassium, folate and vitamin C. Remember to not overdo your consumption of avocados since they contain fats and more fats mean more calories. The best way to include them in your diet is to puree them and use them as toast spreads.

6. Oats

While pregnant, eating healthy is the key to the good health of your baby. Oats are rich in fiber and iron, both of which are essential for you during this time. A bowl of oats in the morning can also help you keep off those extra kilos that you can pile up during pregnancy.

7. Walnuts

Walnuts are plant sources of omega-3 fatty acids. If you do not eat fish, snack up on a handful of walnuts instead.
